Cooking, Moving, and Living Well: A 6 Week Journey Toward Healthy Living – Envision

At Envision, empowering individuals to live healthy, fulfilling lives goes beyond daily routines. It means providing meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and build confidence in real world settings. Recently, Envision’s Day Program proudly partnered with The Ohio State University to offer an engaging six week wellness series focused on healthy eating, smart grocery shopping, and physical activity. This collaborative effort blended education with hands on experiences, giving participants the tools they need to support healthier lifestyles both in and outside of the classroom.

Eating Smart and Cooking Healthy

One of the most exciting elements of the program was a weekly cooking class led by a professional chef. Each session introduced participants to nutritious, easy to prepare meals while teaching essential skills such as reading food labels, shopping for healthy ingredients, and understanding the importance of balanced nutrition.

Beyond learning new recipes, participants explored how food choices directly impact energy levels, overall health, and long term wellness. The chef emphasized practical strategies for making healthier decisions, showing that nutritious meals can be both affordable and enjoyable. Participants actively prepared meals together, building confidence and independence in the kitchen while strengthening teamwork and communication skills.

To celebrate their accomplishments, participants who completed the cooking portion of the program received a certificate of completion along with a goodie bag filled with cooking supplies. These tools empower individuals to continue practicing healthy cooking at home, reinforcing lessons learned throughout the program.

Living Well in the Community

The wellness journey continued with a community based class titled Living Well in the Community, which focused on the physical activity component of healthy living. Participants learned how regular exercise supports physical health, mental well being, and overall quality of life. Instructors introduced simple and accessible ways to stay active, emphasizing that movement can be enjoyable and fit into everyday routines.

Participants explored stretching, light strength training, and low impact activities designed to promote flexibility, endurance, and confidence. To support continued progress, each participant received a certificate of completion and an exercise band, encouraging them to stay active at home or while engaging in community activities.

Empowering Healthy Choices Beyond the Classroom

These classes offered more than information. They provided practical tools, real world skills, and encouragement that participants can carry forward into their daily lives. By combining education, hands on learning, and supportive resources, the program helped individuals build a strong foundation for lifelong wellness.
